A common misconception is that regular use of braces on ankle, knee or lower back will cause you to rely on them and weaken the supporting muscles. This doesn’t happen at all. No brace on the market is strong enough to prevent your muscles from acting around the joint to support it.
Realistically, the additional feedback your brain gets from having the pressure/friction on your skin causes better position sense and therefore BETTER muscular support. Tape tends to work even better due to it’s adhesive nature and rigidity, but regular use can irritate skin.
